Kumms is a modern social discovery platform for users who have outgrown generic, date-sorted feeds. The platform is built around personalized profile ranking, showing each user the most relevant people first, based on their own interests, goals, and lifestyle.

Project Description

Kumms required a complete digital product built from the ground up. UPDOT® led the full-stack engineering effort spanning UI/UX, frontend, backend, and CMS to deliver a seamless, subscription-driven social platform. The build centered on four core capabilities: a high-performance Next.js frontend, a scalable Node.js backend, a subscription and payment management system, and a custom admin panel powered by Payload CMS.

The Challenge

The existing account list showed everyone who signed up, sorted by date, with no relevance to the viewer's interests, goals, or compatibility.
No personalization logic existed; every user saw the same feed regardless of age, language, lifestyle, or relationship goals.
Rich profile data was collected, but never used to generate a meaningful compatibility signal between users.
Poor discovery quality meant users had to scroll through irrelevant profiles before finding someone worth connecting with
Mixed requirements needed both hard eligibility rules and a graduated compatibility scoring system, handling them without collapsing into a single brittle rule.

The Solution

We executed a full-stack engineering strategy, building a decoupled architecture with a Next.js frontend and a scalable Node.js backend. A proprietary two-layer matching algorithm was designed and integrated, separating hard eligibility filters from weighted compatibility scoring across six dimensions, including interests, age, lifestyle, and location. Every touchpoint, from the subscription and payment system to the custom Payload CMS admin panel, was custom-built for performance and scale.
